The Mailinglist archive for the Sibyl (=Delphi clone) OS/2 Rapid Application Development application has moved to new location.
As the list seems to have gone down - losing all subscribers -, I am looking for people who are interested in starting up a new mailinglist for this app. |

OSS AOLers have been working hard to figure out AOL's proprietary protocol for their online service and popular AIM messenger.
This document "The AOL Protocol" gives in depth information on the login and handshaking between the AOL client and servers: http://www.aol-files.com/misc/theaolprotocol.wri.
Also visual basic source code and more at: http://www.aol-files.com under 'AOL Protocol and Sign on and IM example'.
Finally a nearly full, but unofficial specification for the AIM protocol at "FAIM": http://www.zigamorph.net/faim/protocol/.
Great information for anyone who might think about implementing either of these very popular services under OS/2.

As it has been said - OS/2 is a good development plarform and also good as a cross-patform. If anyone is interested in porting cross-patform delopment tools for Psion, let me know. Or perhaps somebody has it done?

Just in case anyone is interested, Watcom C/C++ 11.0c and Fortran 11.0c patch has been officially announced. Visit http://www.openwatcom.org for more info. |
|
This patch for older installations may work as stand alone product.
URL: ftp://ftp.openwatcom.org/watcom/watcom-c-11.0c-b1.exe.
The file is a Win32 installer but works fine with ODIN. To use it one must set the enviromemt variables described on the readme file. This compiler to be usefull needs the OS/2 toolkit installed too, but this comes with eCS, ACP and MCP. It will be usefull for developers to work on device drivers, since many of them were written using this compiler. Thanks to the people at ScitechSoft.

I found the following on the ibm java developer pages http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/other/portingplans.html:
"Our plans for IBM Java 1.3.1 encompass an expanded range of platforms
(AIX, PowerPC 32-bit and 64-bit; zOS; AS/400; Windows 32-bit and 64-bit;
Linux on 32-bit and 64-bit Intel architecture, and on 32-bit zSeries) with
delivery currently scheduled for 4Q 2001. Our implementation of 1.3.1 will
include our enhanced JIT compiler and garbage collection technology.
Note that, as a general rule, we will be moving away from our previous
policy of making standalone Developer Kits available for individual
download. Instead, our emphasis is going to be on making the latest level
of Java technology available as an integrated aspect of IBM products such
as WebSphere. In the case of Linux, of course, delivery will be with the
various Linux distributions.
We plan to have an IBM Java 1.4 delivery on selected platforms within six
months of the Sun General availability of Java 1.4. You can expect to see
shipments on our chosen platforms starting within 2Q 2002."
Can anyone dig up and see if os/2 and ecs is included?
