Okidata C5300

Mark: Good

This printer is an LED printer, similar to laser printer. It has three separate color toners, plus black. I use the IBM postscript driver set to Oki C7400. I use the IBM laserjet driver set to HP 5/5M. It doesn''t always work, but when it does, it produces quite high quality color prints. Consumables seem to be a bit cheaper than other brands of color printers.

I am able to print reasonable booklets that look nearly professional quality. The printer has paper-jams much less frequently than HP laserjet printer it replaced.

Neil adds:

I have an OKI C5300 printer that has ethernet and supports network printing. I currently use it in NetBIOS and LPR mode, but now I've found a much stranger way to print.

I find that I can FTP to the printer, logging in as anonymous, transfer a postscript file to the lp directory, and the file will be printed. I have a copy of NetDrive, so I defined a drive letter, P:, to be the printer's lp directory. Now I can print using any postscript printer object, save to a file on the P: drive, and the file will print.
